“Where did you get me from?” My daughter asked me today.
I laughed and said, "I grew you in my belly, remember?"
But what I wanted to say was:
I laid my head on the ground
And prayed to the Earth below.
I stared into the sun
And asked for its warmth.
I looked up in the night
And sent my wishes to the stars.
I spoke to the moon
And called for its protection.
I wanted it all, you,
buried in the warmth of my womb.
So I prayed to the Earth
And pulled you down from the stars.
I grew you in my belly
And then held you in my arms.
